So, we have chickens. In the early part of the summer we discovered that a couple of them were egg cracking. So, we decided to butcher them. This, as usual, is a total family affair. After the heads came off, both of the girls were quite distraught. Kylee was VERY upset. We tried to explain to her that we were going to put them in our freezer and eat them later. By the time we were done, though, she was asking if we were going to eat them RIGHT NOW because she was hungry. I packaged them up, and put them in the freezer. The next morning I woke up to a tin-foil covered chicken staring my in the face with Kylee right behind it, saying "mom, can we have chicken noodle soup now?"
So, needless to say, the trauma wore off quite quickly, and she was all about seeing how her chickens tasted. About 2 weeks after that, one of our cows got a big chunk of hide taken off of its lower leg. We all went out to doctor it. Kylee was quite worried and kept trying to come over to see her while we were hosing the leg down and trying to scrub it. I kept telling her to back away, but she just kept coming back. Finally, she asked,
"Mom, is the cow hurt?"
"Yes, but we're cleaning it up and she'll be fine"
"Mom?" (in an eager voice) "are we going to eat her now?"
"No Kylee, she'll be okay, we're not going to eat her"
"Oh," (disappointed)
And then, a week later, MaKayla kept using my big heavy bookshelf as a ladder. Finally after pulling her off of it for about the 3rd time or so, I told her that it was going to come crashing down on her and break her head.
Kylee looks at me all serious and says, "Mom? Then we eat her?"
Speaking of being dead....my zucchini and beans won't die!!! Does anyone want some nummy string beans? They are sitting on my plants and I am so sick and tired of picking green beans that I'm just not going to do it again. So, they're free for the picking.
