Bread and Butter Pickles

See these? I make these just for the smell of it. While cooking, they just smell so yummy that, well, I don't know what, but man do they smell good! I think I want a hamburger right now. Oh wait, it's 11:00 at night! Why do I do this to myself?

Look at how purdy they look! Don't mind my mound of zucchini in the background. It has been a permanent picture in that corner of my kitchen.

I had to cover my tomatoes tonight. I left my zucchini and my STILL PRODUCING beans uncovered. Death, I tell you, I want them to die! I am so sick of picking beans, and putting zucchini in everything, that I can hardly stand it. If they die a natural death (by freezing) I guess I will feel better about myself than if I just pull them up and feed them to the cows.

Cayson got a hold of my camera, notice Kylee on the bench in the background. She's in time out. She wouldn't stop chasing the chicken. Apparently it is the fun thing to do. We have this chicken that will greet you at the front door better than our dog. She comes begging for scraps. She has even followed the girls into the truck. That was funny!

Another funny Kylee story: you might have heard this one already. It was about 2 am, and I woke up out of a dead sleep, ya know the kind, when you know something woke you up, but you're not sure what it was? So, I lay there for a minute and didn't hear anything, and started to slip back into a coma, when I heard it again. I couldn't place it. It sounded like glass bonking together. I only heard it once, and then I started to fall back asleep again. It woke me up again, and this time I was sure that it was coming from downstairs. So, I went to investigate.

I flipped on the light, and there was Kylee sitting on the counter, eating the BUTTER that was in the cupboard on a plate! The sound I heard was the plates rattling together. Apparently she needed a midnight (or 2 am) snack! She was only about 16 - 17 months old or so. That girl is silent, yet lethal. I make her go check on Gabe, because she has mastered how to open his door without it squeaking. Crazy!

I used to hate them as well. Then I decided to make them. Something about the smell, I tell you! Now I don't mind them so much.

You have got to stop canning! You are shaming the rest of us! I felt great about my 20 quarts of peaches... but not any more...
