Dairy-free household

So, as a little background, as any of you know, we are a BIG dairy household.  Just about anthing and everything we eat has some sort of dairy in it.  My family could easily go through 8 gallons of milk a week, not to mention 2-3 lbs of cheese, plus butter, sour cream, youghrt, etc.  Anyway, both of my boys have very dry, itchy, ezema-ie skin.  My oldest son has never reacted to the skin alergy testing, nor has he every responded to any alergy-type medication.

On a whim the other day, I decided to give my turd-butt some of the allergy medication.  Needless to say, he actually responds to it.  The problem is, we would prefer not to give him mediciation.  So, the typicall top thing that kids are alergic to is dairy, egg, tomato stuff.  Which leads to the title of this post.  I have decided for 2 weeks for our house to abstain from dairy to see where it leaves my two boys.

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to find food (that we eat) that has not dairy in it??!?!!?  Oh- and, soy milk gives pre-pubescent boys boobs, so we're going to avoid that.  Soy milk has MUCH higher levels of estrogen in it than cow's milk, and has been proven to give little boys increased breast tissue.  Anyway, in order to prevent that, we went with rice milk.  We'll see how that goes.

So, as a result, the next two weeks of meals are going to be either a little different, or quite boring.  We'll see.  I'm REALLY not sure what I am going to do if this actually works.  Cry maybe??  Make a lot of phone calls to my friend Tish, who gets to pleasure of having a dairy free house as well as MANY other alergens?  Something, anyway...

does the soy milk work on 30-something year old women as well? if so, pass the glass.

You brave woman you! We go through a ton of dairy as well and my middle child is the one with skin problems. We've tried cutting back and that's worked out fairly well, not sure if we could make do without though! Be sure to keep us updated.

My sister in law says her kids love vanilla almond milk...another alternative to consider. :)

Oh man, good luck! Let us know how it all turns out, and I can't wait for all the phone calls! If anyone can make milk-free delicious, you can.

I had to stop dairy with Penny cause she was having problems. I did Rice and Almond milk. Everything has dairy or whey so be careful. I found solace through this time by consuming pie. By no cool whip cause that also has dairy. Have fun and life without cheese is not worth living.
